If you love butterflies, richly textured artwork and beautiful printable papers that look almost too luxurious to be digital, the Luxe Painted Butterflies Collection was created for you.
This free printable collection combines delicate butterfly imagery with thick palette-knife paint, dramatic jewel tones, softer blush and ivory shades and lavish champagne-gold details. The finished designs have so much visual texture that the paint appears almost sculptural—as though you could reach into the page and feel every raised brushstroke and fragment of gold leaf.
The collection includes eight coordinated printable papers and a bonus sheet filled with useful butterfly-themed ephemera. Download the files, print your favourite pages and use them for junk journals, scrapbook layouts, handmade cards, collage, gift wrapping and many other paper crafts.
What Is Included in the Free Download?
The Luxe Painted Butterflies collection contains nine printable US Letter pages:
Eight luxury printable background papers
One coordinating bonus elements sheet
Individual high-resolution JPG files
One combined printable PDF
US Letter pages measuring 8.5 × 11 inches
High-resolution 300-DPI artwork
The JPG files allow you to print individual designs whenever you need them. The combined PDF makes it easy to print the complete collection or select particular pages using your PDF reader’s printing controls.
A Rich Butterfly-Inspired Colour Palette
The collection moves between dramatic jewel tones and softer romantic shades.
Deep midnight navy, peacock teal, turquoise, plum and magenta create the darker statement designs. Blush pink, warm ivory and champagne gold introduce light and balance, making the papers easy to combine within one project.
The gold details are designed to resemble broken metallic leaf embedded within thick layers of paint. Although your printer cannot reproduce genuine metallic shine, the tonal variation and painted highlights help give the printed artwork a convincing gilded appearance.
Eight Coordinating Printable Papers
Rather than repeating one butterfly pattern in different colours, this collection offers a mixture of focal artwork and useful supporting designs.
You will find dramatic statement butterflies, lighter airy compositions, richly decorated all-over patterns, macro wing-inspired textures and flowing abstract painted backgrounds.
This variation makes the collection especially versatile. A statement paper can become the focal point of a journal cover or greeting card, while the quieter abstract designs can be used for writing pages, pockets, layering and backgrounds.
The pages coordinate closely without looking identical, allowing a finished project to feel consistent while still offering plenty of visual interest.
The Bonus Butterfly Elements Sheet
The bonus elements sheet contains practical embellishments designed to work with all eight papers.
It includes:
Five painted butterfly focal pieces
Three writable tags
Four coordinating washi tape strips
Two decorative labels
Two painted medallions
Three smaller painted accents
The butterflies can be used as journal-page focal points, card toppers, scrapbook embellishments or decorative closures. The writable tags and labels are ideal for dates, short quotations, names, memories and journaling notes.
The washi-style strips can be used as printed borders, faux tape, page dividers or decorative trims. The medallions and painted accents are useful for filling smaller spaces and bringing the collection’s colours into layered compositions.

How to Print the Collection
Download and unzip the files before printing. Open either an individual JPG page or the combined PDF.
Choose Actual Size or 100% Scale in your print settings if you want to retain the intended US Letter dimensions. Avoid selecting “Fit to Page” unless your printer requires it, as this may reduce the artwork slightly.
For regular journal and collage pages, good-quality matte presentation paper provides clear colour without excessive bulk. Use cardstock for tags, card fronts, bookmarks and sturdier embellishments.
Photo paper can intensify the jewel colours and painted highlights, although the finished surface will be glossier. You may also enjoy experimenting with textured cardstock or lightly aged paper for mixed-media projects.
Printer ink, paper and monitor settings vary, so colours may appear slightly different from those displayed on screen.
Seven Creative Ways to Use the Printable Papers
1. Create a Butterfly Junk Journal
Use one dramatic paper for the cover, then combine the lighter and darker designs throughout the journal. Add pockets, tuck spots and folded pages before decorating them with the printable tags, labels and butterflies.
2. Make Luxury Handmade Cards
Crop a favourite section of one paper for a card front. Layer it onto navy, plum or ivory cardstock and add a cut-out butterfly using foam adhesive for dimension. A narrow printed washi strip makes an elegant border.
3. Design Decorative Journal Pockets
Print one of the abstract papers onto medium-weight paper and fold it into a pocket. Add a coordinating label and tuck one of the printable tags inside.
4. Create Butterfly Scrapbook Layouts
Use a lighter paper behind photographs and reserve the darker patterns for borders, frames and smaller accent layers. The cut-out butterflies can guide the eye around the finished page.
5. Decorate Gift Boxes and Packages
Use the papers to wrap small presents, cover gift boxes or create decorative belly bands. Add gold ribbon, a printable tag and a layered butterfly for an opulent handmade finish.
6. Make Bookmarks and Reading-Journal Accessories
Cut strips from the papers, mount them onto cardstock and finish them with ribbon or a tassel. Smaller butterfly elements can be added near the top without covering too much of the design.
7. Experiment With Collage and Mixed Media
Tear or cut pieces from several papers and combine them with book pages, stamps, paint, lace, stitching and found materials. The rich printed textures add depth even before any physical media are applied.
Three Coordinated Project Combinations
If you are unsure where to begin, try one of these combinations.
Midnight Butterfly Journal
Choose a dark navy or teal statement paper for the cover. Add plum and turquoise abstract pages inside, then finish the journal with gold thread, a decorative label and one large butterfly.
Blush and Gold Greeting Card
Use one of the light blush or ivory papers for the card background. Layer a jewel-toned butterfly over the top and add a narrow strip of printed gold-accented washi tape.
Jewel-Tone Gift Presentation
Wrap a small gift with one of the rich abstract designs. Add a coordinating tag, dark satin ribbon and a butterfly embellishment to create a package that feels almost too pretty to open. Almost.
Ideas for Using the Printable Butterflies
For added dimension, print the elements sheet onto cardstock and carefully cut around each butterfly. Gently curve the wings upward and attach only the centre of the butterfly to your project.
You can also print the sheet at a reduced scale to create smaller decorations for planners, miniature journals, gift tags and card interiors.
Try layering two copies of the same butterfly, adding metallic paint around the edges or embellishing the wings with tiny pearls, sequins or glitter.
